The
Swedish Massage is based on the Western concepts of Anatomy & Physiology.
A Swedish doctor named Pir Henrik Ling is credited with the development
of Swedish Massage in the late 1700's.
THE
MAIN PURPOSE OF MASSAGE.
Besides
being physically and emotionally relaxing, massage improves blood
and lymph circulation without increasing heart load. It stretches
ligaments and tendons keeping them supple and pliable. Massage also
stimulates the skin and nervous system while soothing the nerves
themselves.
Massage
brings fresh blood, oxygen and other nutrients to the effected tissues
while helping to flush toxins (uric & lactic acid along with other
metabolic wastes) from the system. Massage also causes the body
to produce fewer stress hormones like cortisol ( the stress hormone
that causes fat to deposit itself around the midsection ) and nor
epinephrine ( formerly adrenalin ), and can also increase the body's
production of pain-killing endorphins along with the mood altering
hormone seratonin. ( the hormone that helps you relax & sleep better
)
All
of this together helps to shorten the recovery time associated with
emotional and physical trauma / stress.
In
simpler terms, massage feels great while promoting health and well
being!
